GOBI DESERT

GOBI DESERT
DUNHUANG CHINA

The Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel

The Gobi Desert is the largest desert in Asia and measures some 1.25 Million square kilometers and stretched across north west China and Mongolia. Dunhuang is on the edge of the Gobi Desert and is an oasis along the Silk Road and although the Gobi Desert is basically rocks at Dunhuang the sand dunes are immense raising to over 1000 meters. The hills behind Duanhang have been called the Singing Mountains. Dunhuang is a remote but interesting part of China and provides a glimpse of the Gobi Desert. It also has  the Mogao Caves  , 492 caves carved into the cliffs above the Dachuan River that were built between the 4th and 14th century and filled with Buddhist relics and frescoe's.

The Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel is an excellent place to sat as it sits right on the edge of the sand and the desert.
