INTERESTING OLD TOWN WITH HISTORY
Gallipoli is only 53 kilometres from Lecce which is the most likely place from you might reach the town by rail which may take up to 2.5 hours. Make sure you check the timetable of Ferrovia del Sud , the train system that is now operated by the government which may or may not be accurate and which days the train operates as they seems to have public holidays and Sundays off and operates to some undefined time-table. It is worth the journey in the old trains and you will find the town of Gallipoli has many points of historical interest, some interesting churches and some good restaurants. It does cater for tourists and many visit here which tends to detract a little from the visit but still worthwhile.
