CUSCO-PERU High Altitide

The first thing you will notice is the altitude at 3,400 metres and the red clay tile topped buildings as you land in Cusco , which is the most usual place to head to Machu Picchu in the Andes. The next that you will notice is the Spanish Colonial architecture which is quite beautiful and now a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Stroll around the town to see the architecture and the churches.

Our accommodation was the J W Marriott in an old convent near the centre of the city and it was great.Try the Ceviche and Pisco sours in the bar. but take care because of the altitude. You can get to Machu Picchu by bus and train or just train from Cusco and you will notice the change in climate from dry and arid to sub-tropical and some 1,000 metres lower. The train journey back is  entertainment but long.
