EASTER ISLAND-REMOTE BUT FASCINATING

Easter Island is isolated with 3500 kilometres to Chile and a little less to Tahiti. It is a desolate wind-swept island in the south Pacific with about 5,500 people most of who live in Hanga Roa. Accommodation in Hanga Roa is fairly basic but OK and there are a few reasonable restaurants and one or two markets but do not expect a wide range of goods.

The best way to see the island is to hire a car or get a tour with a  car and driver that is reasonably low cost and you can cover the island in one day including all the sites of the Moai of which there are over 800 and most you can walk to. Ensure you have warm clothing although the weather is sub-tropical it can rain and get cold. There are daily flights from Santiago in Chile on Lantam  which are not cheap.
