COPE COPE-A TOWN NO LONGER

 COPE COPE

A TINY TOWN NO LONGER

Cope Cope was a tiny town in 1945 or thereabouts, with a Primary School with one teacher and five students over the six grades . The train station operated as it was the half-way point from Melbourne to Mildura which was then a single line and trains would pass at Cope Cope. There were of course the wheat silos that are still there but the train station and residence have long gone having closed  in 1987. So too has the Anglican Church that closed in 1979, the school in 1965  and the Presbyterian church  1966.It once had hotesl and was quit a town , the school dates back to 1875. The rail line went to Donald in 1882 and the larger towns of donals to the north and St Arnaud to the south took the business activity away.
