There are few options descenty options around most nights in Rutherglen and based on good reviews we agreed to try the Eastern Palace at the Star Hotel.The decor was typical country pub with a slight Chinese influence. As this place has been around for some 16 years it will survive a bad review or two as I expect there have been many but the food was not good at all and one of the worst Chinese meals ever in Australia and some in China where it can get pretty bad.The kung pao chicken , a Szechuan chicken dish had no chilli or flavour at all and the chicken was white glutonous meat of some kind. The vegetables in black bean sauce was a gooey mess of black syrup mixed with vegetables and not at all pleasant.We can and should do better in Rutherglen.The service was acceptable and the wine list minimal.
