Vik Iceland-Southern Most Town

Spectacular Scenery-Drab Little Town

Vik sits on the Ring Road and is the southern most town in Iceland. The scenery is quite spectacular and beautiful but the town of only about 250 people is fairly drab. in 2010 the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano covered the town in ash and as it sits die south of Kalta Volcano which is covered in snow  and has not erupted since 1918 but should it happen there is a fear that a flash flood would smother all but the quaint church that sits high on a hill.  Vik is an important point if travelling the Ring Road and has one major very expensive hotel operated by Iceland Air.
VIK
This is the best place in town but avoid the cabins although they are cheaper they are small and well below average. The hotel itslef is much better but of course more expensive. The hotel has a reasonably good restaurant but not cheap.
