RIMOWA NARITA JAPAN TO THE RESCUE

RIMOWA AT NARITA TERMINAL 2 TO THE RESCUE

It would be fair to say that Old Jack was unimpressed by Finnair who destroyed my expensive Rimowa luggage by ripping off one wheel and equally unimpressed that there was no way under about two weeks to have it repaired in Austria (where the wheel ripping off occurred)  or Germany (where we visited two days later), the home of Rimowa.  Over five weeks of travel both Finnair and Rimowa were not high on my list of  favoured suppliers. Finnair remains down low but Rimowa has recovered to a degree.

For those who use Rimowa luggage know they are designed to run on smooth surfaces and with four wheels.Like a three legged horse or  one legged footballer it is not a load of fun. So too with a three wheeled Rimowa in the cobbled streets of Europe. For those that have tried to destroy and old Rimowa  you could not rip off a wheel if you tried very hard but the baggage handlers at Finnair and others have been trained and are skilled in the art.

RIMOWA IN NARITA TO THE RESCUE

Whether it is because the wheels are frequently ripped away or just good service, Rimowa have a service unit in Terminal 2 Arrivals at Narita. On arrival we unpacked the contents, in a soft bag in anticipation and sought help from the Rimowa man who gave a loud sigh as if sucking noodles, checked the age  of the luggage and shook his head with another noodle suck and took the suitcase and promised it would be ready on our departure as we flew from Narita two days later. Sure enough it was ready as promised, a new wheel fixed and looking like new and NO CHARGE as it was under warranty.

And as for Fiinair and the gorilla (apologies to gorilla's) who did the wheel ripping off were let off, totally free of any cost or responsibility and one would assume planning to do it again to the next unwary traveller with Rimowa luggage.

Good Old Rimowa in Narita.
