To explore the Italian area of Apulia , the spur on the boot of Italy there is no better spot that to base your travels in Monopoli, a hidden gem in places to visit in Italy. Monopoli is 40 KM south east of Bari and a little further from Brindisi both of which have good airports and services from London and a train service to the many fascinating towns nearby.

Monopoli has much to offer with its white marble streets and old buildings, walls and some fairly interesting churches. A great place to stay in the older part of Monopoli was Albergo Diffuso, 

a series of apartments  in various locations. in the old town. 

The entrance to Albergo Diffuso with a small cafe and reception to the right and an outdoor area. The apartment was at the end of the courtyard. We were picked up at the train station by a three wheeled bike and taken to the reception area through the old streets of Monopoli
