HOA LO PRISON HANOI

HOA LO PRISON
"NOT THE HANOI HILTON"
First used by the French Colonists to house political prisoners it was later used to house US prisoners of war during the Vietnam War era.One of the better known POW's was Senator John McCain of Arizona whose photograph being treated by friendly Vietnamese doctors is displayed. The prison itself was demolished during the 1990's but the gatehouse has been retained as an interesting museum, although you might say it is somewhat biased in its presentation of how the POW's may have been treated. The prison was sarcastically referred to as 'The Hanoi Hilton" and the real Hilton called the

is located within walking distance distance and a good central place to stay when in Hanoi.
It is well worth a visit to see the museum which depicts both the Vietnam Warand colonial period history.
