Lake Powell Arizona-Planet Of The Apes 1966

LAKE POWELL
MAJESTIC SCENERY
'Planet of the Apes" 1966
It started with the 1966 movie 'Planet of the Apes" with Charlton Heston where his space craft lands in Lake Powell, presumably somewhere in outer space and the love affair with the scenery of Lake Powell commenced.Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado river straddling Arizona and Utah and  it is the second largest man-made reservoir by maximum water capacity in the United States behind Lake Mead. Lake Powell was created by the Glen Canyon Dam which resulted in the flooding of the Glen Canyon.  The town of Page was built for the construction of the dam and although now a village built around tourism still falls short of what it could be.One of the better hotels is the Courtyard by Marriott that sits just down from the town toward the dam and has a gold course behind.

Lake Powell offers a lot to see  with Antelope canyon, Rainbow bridge and Horseshoe Bend. There is much to see and the scenery is magnificent.
