Petrified Forest --Arizona

PETRIFIED FOREST
224 million years old
NORTH EAST ARIZONA

In Navajo and Apache counties, 26 miles east of Holbrook and about 35 miles north of Show Low you will find the Petrified Forest National Park. It is Highway 40 which runs parallel with old route 66 and covers some 230 square miles and sits at 5,400 feet.. The park was established in 1962 as a national monument and has an array of petrified logs  and trees that are 224 million years old. At the north west exit you will also the find the Painted Desert. The park is well organised with good parking at the various sites and good walking tracks that are all well signed.A good place to sat with a short drive is the Hampton Inn in Show Low.
