Mount Martha

MOUNT MARTHA

ONCE A FARMING AREA NOW HOME TO THE AFFLUENT WHO LIVE BY THE SEA

Mt Martha is located on Port Phillip Bay 60 KM south of Melbourne. Using the Monash Freeway , Eastlink and Peninsula Link it takes less than one hour.
When staying in Mt Martha a good place to bed down is:

Mt Martha, named after the Colonist Lonsdale's wife Martha it dates back to 1850 when the Briar's Homestead by Alexander Balcombe who farmed the area.By 1891 the Mount Martha  Hotel had been built and is now a Heritage listed Mt Martha House  used as a community Centre. During the Second World War the Balcombe Creek area was used as a base for the US Marines First Marine division, and is now a picnic area and boardwalk that runs through to the Briars. Towards Mornington you can find the Pillars and to the south the inland water area of Martha's Cove .
Across from the beach with its great sandy stretches, protected water is the charming and small Mt Martha Village. The beach photo's below speak for themselves.
