COOBER PEDY
"WHACKY" OUTBACK AUSTRALIAN TOWN
Coober Pedy is located 870 KM north west of Adelaide on a good highway through essentially nothing but interesting. Coober Pedy ( Boys Waterhole in Aboriginal) is known as the OPAL capital of the world with the first opal found in 1915.There are now 70 opal fields and some 1.700 people. COMFORT INN COOBER PEDY EXPERIENCE

Things To Do In Coober Pedy
Make sure you visit a number of the underground churches and be sure to go visit the Rabbit Proof fence some twenty kilometers out. Be sure to take one of the opal mine tours and stay in an underground motel. Above all walk and rive around this totally untidy town, full of old car wrecks, discarded mining equipment and general household  trash. You will find some interesting characters  in town , and some now gone but have left their homes as tourist attractions. Do not expect much in restaurants as they are basic.
