Built from 1478 by Sweden it is a walled fortress over six separate islands  at the entrance to the Helsinki Harbor.It covers and area of 210 HA and has  200 buildings and 6 km of walls.It was originally called Sveaborg (Castle of the Swedes ) and when Finland gained independence in 1917 it was changed to Suomenlinna (Fortress of Finland). It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Allow a good half day to walk the islands. Pick a warm sunny day,.
