HISTORIC OLD TOWN
Hakata is one of the oldest cities in Japan and it close proxiity to Korea made it an early basee for mechants trading with China and Korea. Hakata and Fukuoka were merged in 1876 and ultimately the old hakata area was re-named Hakata-Ku.

Fukuoka has the airpoirt and it was the airport where we flew to get to Nagasaki and took the opportunity to look areound Hakata, which has a small and very well-preserved historical area. Beyond that it is a typical Japanese town and some areas looked tacky. The historical area howver is worth a look.
