The Story

This house became famous after the historical event known as Ako Incident. It was the home of Kira Kozukenosuke Yoshihisa, a court offical in the Edo Shogunate was killed by 47 Ronin (Out of work or masterless Samurai) who took revenge on the death of their masterAsano Takaminokami who had previously coomitted rutual suicide (Seppuku) because he had offended Kira and it was the right thing to do. The 47 subsequently went the same way and their graves and those of Asano and Kira can be found in the Sengakuji Temple cemetry.

A good place to stay in Tokyo is:

The Sengakuji Temple is north of Shinagawa Station ( Yamanote Line) and a kilometer on  Daichi Keikin Avenue (towards Tokyo) and turn left at the Sengakuji Station and just up the hill from the Sengakuji Station ( Keikyu Line)

COMMENT

Ryogoku is not a usual tourist area of Tokyo but it is quite interesting and historical  and has the Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena (the home of Sumo wrestling) , Ryogoku Edo Nore, a Edo period village with small restaurants  and the modern Edo Tokyo Museum. Also walk along the Sumida River for numerous temples and parks .
