ST PETERS DOME--CLIMBING THE VATICAN'S CUPOLA

ST PETER'S DOME
THE VATICAN CUPOLA
VATICAN CITY-ITALY
It seemed a good idea at the time; seeing a part of St Peter's Basilica and the work of Michelangelo who started the design and work in 1547, died in 1564 and then it was completed in 1590.

The first 230 steps take you out onto the roof. Great! The next 320 steps take you up in a ever-narrowing spiral until you are at the top and you get a great view of Vatican City.Take in the view and get out of the confined passage ways as soon as you can. Entrance is free aalthough the last stage to the Cupola costs Euro 8.

On the way you can see down into St Peter's Basilica and what is taking place.
As I recall there were long lines so pick your time  and if you do not like confined spaces  just admire the Basilica from outside and hope you see someone of importance.
