The Old Market Hall dates back to 1889 (not 1888) as indicated at the door and has a varied history over the years.It started with 120 outlets a 6 major sites centrally inside. The market boomed until WW1 and the Civil War of 1918, recovered a little in the 20's and again suffered in the Great Depression of the 1930's. WW2 did not help and restrictions were eased in the 1950's and activity increased . After Finland joined the EU in 1991, access to different food helped and today the market is a series of boutique outlets and small trendy restaurants and coffee shops.Also go to the open air market next door for a different experience.
