VASA--A BRILLIANT DISASTER

VASA
THE SHIP THAT SUNK IN STOCKHOLM HARBOR
Vasa, a 69 meter, 1,210 tionne sailing cessel was constructed  between 1626 and 1628. Built by Swedish King Gustavus Adolpus , who had grand plans for the ship, to be one of the most heavily armed afloat. It would hold 145 sailors and 300 soldiers. Someone however overlooked its instability as it was top-heavy and on its maiden voyage on 10th August 1628 it managed to travel 1.3 kiometers in Stockholm Harbor and sunk. Al;though in shallow waters and near shore some 30-150 people perished with two lessons, teach your sailors to swim and  make sure the boat has good ballast. It was forgotten for over 300 years and rediscovered  and recoverd in 1961. It has now beeen restored and sits in an impressive museum. Also enoy the old part of Stockholm with its colorful houses.
