GEORGE TOWN PENANG-AMAZING STREET ART

 GEORGE TOWN PENANG

AMAZING STREET ART

George Town is a fascinating place even without the street art that is seen all around this historic and World Heritage city in Penang  Malaysia. The diversity of cultures that  libe harmoniousl makes for a great place to visit. Georgetown, the oldest British colony in South East Asia was recognised as a World Heritage site in 2009. At that time it was not the tourist place it is today. The State Government held a competition to find artists to liven up the place and the winners created steel rod caricatures around the town they called "Voices of the People.'' In 2012 they commissioned a lithuanian ae-rtist Ernest Zacharevic to paint a series of large scale murals.

There are many good hotels in Geroge Town and we selected one right in the old town

The Edison George Town Hotel

The Edison was the HQ of thr K=jaapanese Army in WW2 and has been beautifully restored.

Take in the culoture and atmosphere of GeorgeTtown with is blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Muslim cultures and seek out all those interesting rod and steel caricatures (there are many) and those fine paintings and murals by Zacharevic. They are worthwhile seeing.
