MONUMENT VALLEY

Monument Valley is 320 miles from Phoenix, 324 miles from Albuquerque and 400 miles from Las Vegas. Access to the Vixitor Centre is via US 163  just north of the Utah-Arizona border.The park is managed by  Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation and there is a $20 entrance fee (up to 4 people in the car).

A good place to stay is GOULDING'S LODGE which is 2.7 km from the entrance to Monument Valley
There are two options (other than a guided tour)  to see Monument Valley. 

17 mile Loop Drive. 

This is an unsealed road and suitable for conventional vehicles under normal conditions.

Wildcat Walk. 

This is a 4 mile walk  around  Mitten Butte and Merrick Butte and you see most of the best scenery
