MOGAO CAVES
UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE
Around the first century AD, Buddhist monks arrived in China and a sizeable buddhist community developed in Dunhuang at the intersection of the major  routes of the Silk Road. The caves carved out of the cliff walls by the monks , used for meditation and worship and are now called the Mogao Caves of 'Caves of a Thousand Buddha's". The theatres and ticket office in Dunhuang is world class and the caves themselves have been maintained well and the whole experience was as good as it gets. A good place to stay is the
