HILL-SIDE VILLAGE ON THE TYRRHENIAN COAST


Maratea is the only town on the Basilicata Coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea and has some 32 kilometers of rugged coastline and 20 beaches.Maratea sits on the northern slopes of Mount San Biagio which rises 620 meters  from the sea. It is a two hour forty five minute train ride between Naples and Maratea and there are some 14 trains per day. Arrange a taxi to pick you up at the train station  as the townh ship is a up the hill from the station. This can be done through your accomodation. An excellent B& B in the heart of the old town was RegiElena B&B 


The twonship is small with winding narrow streets  with 44 churches. The town center has the Piazza Buraglia, which is mall and has some good restaurants arounds perimeter. On the coast there is a small port that also havs some interesting restaurants as well. Walk down and take a taxi back. A feature of the town is the Statue Del cristo Rendentore , ot Christ the Redeemer.It stands on the top of Mount San Biagio and faces inland.It is 22 metes high and the arms are 19 meters long finger tip to finger tip.
