The Selaron Steps were created by Chilean born artist Jorge Selaron who in 1990 renovated the steps in front of his house with colored tiles.He initially scavenged the tiles from waste dumps and construction sites but in time tiles were donated and there are now tiles from 60 countries on the 215 steps covering 125 meters.

It is suggested that you take a tour of the steps and other places in Rio. The area around the steps was a little rough and we were warned not to venture into the side streets.
