Scottsdale was foundered by Winfield Scott who was a retired Army Captain and realized the Salt River Valley offerd great promiose and purchasd 640 acres for $3.50 per acre in where Scottsdale now stands.Prior to 1894, it was called Orangedale but changed to Scottsdale after its founder. It was incorporated in 1951 with 2.000 habitants.
Old Town is a quirky, arty place with numerous high quality art and craft stores, some good restaurants and some tacky places as well. There are a number of interesting historic buildings and along the canal there is Fashion Square , the best shoppong mall in Phoenix
