Getting There

We flew from Dubai with Emirates, which was the simplest method.Taxis were not an issue in Muscat and well organised.We stayed at the 

AL BUSTAN PALACE, A RITZ CARLTON HOTEL

Muscat, Oman's port capitol  sits on the Gulf of Oman surrounded by the rugged Western Al Hajar Mountains and desert.The city was very safe and there was much to see, including Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a 16th Century Portuguese Fort, and some interesting markets.

The palace was built by Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1985 to house the first GCC Summit in Oman. Qaboos came to power in 1970 and since then has developed Oman into a thriving and vibrant economy of about 1.5 million people. The Palace for some years has operated as a Ritz Carlton Hotel with the rugged Western Al Hajar Mountains to the rear and the Bay of Oman in the Arabian sea out front.  Muscat is a clear and safe city  and very interesting with its forts and harbour and markets and Mosques.

Muscat Oman-Different And Fascinating

Muscat is only a short flight from Dubai and a totally different world and unlike most other Middle Eastern cities visited. With the Arabian Sea to the east ,Saudi Arabia is to its west, Emirates to the north and Yemen in the south and it appeared very different to all its neighbours.The place was quite amazing and very beautiful and a complete surprise.

Muscat is serviced by a modern International airport some 35 KM from Muscat on well made roads. The city was extremely well maintained, neat and picturesque with the Western Al Hajar Mountains dominating the scenery with their bare craggy peaks.The two was well laid out and neat and clean and appeared quite safe.
